Councils set to play an essential part in tackling climate change

Has the influence councils can have on reducing carbon emissions been underused?


During the recent COP26 conference world leaders set out their commitment to tackle climate change - signing up to reduce emissions, safeguard forests and tackle methane.




But it will be local councils that have a bigger part to play to drive action in their local communities. The LGA has found that more people trust councils to tackle climate change in their local area. With the right funding they will be able to achieve an ambitious programme of climate change activity. This could not only put the UK on the right path to green targets but could also support local communities with reduced energy bills, save the NHS millions and provide new skilled employment.
